On February 25, 2026, our beloved mother, sister, and friend, CHRISTINE MCDOWELL RANCHER was called home. She was born on November 17, 1958, to the late Marion and Leolder McDowell.
Christine gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. As a proud graduate of NLU (currently ULM), she carried herself with strength, wisdom, and grace.
Christine went on to marry and have three children, Kenyana (Micheal) Jones, Erick Rancher, and Derrick (Sheena) Rancher, who were her pride and joy. Those children gave her four grandchildren, Kayanna Jones, Micheal Jones, Jr., A’nyla Rancher, and Erick Rancher, Jr., whom she loved dearly; as well as a bonus son, Dedric (Yolanda) Candler, who gave her two grandboys, Dedric Candler, Jr., and Darius Candler.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marion McDowell, Jr.; mother, Leolder McDowell; sisters, Normagean Brown, Roseanor McDowell, and Etta Denise McDowell; and brother, Elmore Berry. Though they welcomed her home, her absence leaves a deep and tender space in the hearts of those who miss her.
She leaves to cherish her four sisters, Erma (Nathan) Monroe, Marzetta Johnson, Veronica McDowell, and Etta (Samuel) Boston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Christine lived a fulfilled and blessed life, never meeting a stranger and always caring and kind to everyone she encountered. Christine’s legacy is one of faith, family, and fortitude. Her love was steady, her spirit was strong, and her impact will echo through generations.
