It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved family member and friend. She touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through cherished memories, acts of kindness, and the love she shared with others.
Claudette was born on June 12, 1937, to Van Buren and Rosie Lee Johnson. As the fourth of ten children, she grew up surrounded by a large and loving family.
Her upbringing instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility, and teamwork.
Claudette began her education at Cane Elementary School and graduated from Union Central High School in Caldwell Parish. She pursued a higher education at Southern University and St. Anthony School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. Shortly a er completing her studies, she married Melvin C. Green, who was serving in the military at the time.
Due to Melvin’s military obligations, the couple settled in Fairfield, California. There, they raised their family and established their careers, building a life rooted in dedication and service.
Claudette played a vital role in her community, helping to establish the Fairfield, California chapter of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). Her dedication to the organization reflected her commitment to empowering and supporting women within her community.
In addition to her professional and community pursuits, Claudette was an avid sports fan, enjoying the excitement and camaraderie that came with following her favorite teams and events.
In 1993, Claudette and her husband, Melvin, made the decision to relocate to Bosco, Louisiana. Upon returning, Claudette reconnected with her spiritual roots by reuniting with Union Baptist Church. She dedicated herself to service within the church community, becoming an usher. Claudette fulfilled this role with faithfulness and devotion, serving consistently until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Van Buren Johnson and Rosie Lee Johnson; as well as her siblings: Alynne Compton, Fred Johnson, Velma Dangerfield, Roxie Johnson, Ruth McCarthy, Etta Ward, and Donald Johnson.

Claudette was a dedicated and loving grandmother who played a significant role in the upbringing of her grandchildren. She was especially instrumental in rearing Penell, Marcus, and Alan III, offering them guidance, support, and unwavering affection throughout their lives. Although Claudette did not have the opportunity to personally know La’tice, Nyla, and Malakai, her love and affection extended to them as well.
